When I started trail riding the default was to always plan a circular route.
Keep moving forwards.
Make progress.
Never turn back.
It made sense at the time.
But I recently rode up to the Outer Hebrides in Scotland.
We had no route and explored one way trails.
Which required a lot of turning around.
Which meant I got to see the world twice.
On the way up the trails I was shooting the hills in front of me.
And on the way out I was shooting the sea view that had been behind me.
One scene lit sharply by the sun.
The other soft and dreamy as I shot into the sun.
Two for the price of one.
Sometimes turning around is worth the effort.
